After a great first year for the club we took to The Left Bank on Sat night (10th Dec) to hand out some awards to celebrate achievements by our members and the awards were as follows:

A great year for the club was rounded off nicely with the Club Xmas Party which swiftly followed the awards ceremony and was a great chance to look back on the outstanding achievements made by the club in its very first year:

• Kilkenny Triathlon Club was ranked 11th out of 60 Irish Tri Clubs in the National Series 2011 Club Championship Rankings
• 2 of our members finished very high up the Individial National Series rankings; Brendan McCarthy finished 70 overall and 7th in his age category (40-44 year olds) and Colm Murray finished 76th overall and 6th in his age category (45-49 year olds)
• Our first club podium came at Carrick-on-Suir Sprint Triathlon where Nicola Dooley claimed 2nd place
• Our first club win came shortly after this as Niamh Richardson won the Clonea Sprint Triathlon
• Club Secretary Eoin Molloy was selected by Tri Ireland to represent in his age category at the European Triathlon Championships taking place in Israel next April
• The club had 2 members take the title of 'Ironmen'- George Sherwood and Peter Fitzgerald
• The club website collected the award for the Best Sports Website at the Irish Web Awards

These are just a small selection of the achievements in the club in 2011 and doesn't include all the other great results and the huge leaps and bounds that many members made who were completely new to the sport at the start of the year. We all hope that this year was only the start and that much bigger and better things await the club as we take on the 2012 season!
