Ireland's all-island Bike Week 2011 will take place from 18 to 26 June offering a series of nationwide events led by County and City Councils in association with Local Sports Partnerships, local groups and other agencies. The Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport is again providing financial support for events this year in the South and the Department for Regional Development is providing financial support for events in Northern Ireland.
"Bike Week" is a key awareness raising initiative under the National Cycle Policy Framework. The Government is committed to continuing to invest in the National Cycle Policy as Ireland moves towards a sustainable transport future.
The opening event for Bike Week 2011 will take place in Eyre Square in Galway on the 18 June and the national closing event returns to the Phoenix Park on the 26 June. Local events engage on a very personal level with communities and raise awareness of cycling right around the country. A wide range of events are planned, details of the events taking place in Kilkenny will be available at http://www.bikeweek.ie/ and www.nidirect.gov.uk/travelwiseni Bike Week can also be found on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/bikeweek.ie and www.facebook.com/travelwiseni
