The Pro's are coming to Kilkenny

31 January 2011

There has been some great news recently for Kilkenny City and for all aspiring triathletes with the news that this year’s Kilkenny Triathlon has undergone some major changes following the success of the inaugural race in 2010. This year's race takes place on the 23rd July and will include a professional field, the only race in Ireland to do so this year.

As a club we aim to have a huge appearance at the event and will hopefully have all our members proudly showing off the club colours! We are currently looking in to getting reduced race entry fee for KTC members and will let you all know as soon as possible. We will also have a course layout and more event info once details are released by organisers.

The following is the official press release from TriGrandPrix Ireland:

The Kilkenny Triathlon has been selected as the only Irish triathlon to be part of the TriGrandPrix Championship ( This means that some of the world’s top professional triathletes will be coming to Kilkenny to compete against the cream of Irish talent. The prize purse is also a staggering Euro 10,000.

However, TriGrandPrix is all about Athlete Care and the main focus will be on the Age Group and first time Triathletes. The Experience will include the following events, all to be held on the same day:

  • Olympic Distance
  • Olympic Distance Relay
  • Sprint Distance
  • Sprint Distance Relay
  • Kid’s Event

TriGrandPrix Ireland, the Kilkenny Triathlon will be held on Saturday, July 23rd 2011 at Kilkenny Castle.

Mirinda Carfrae (Kona World Champion) and many others who participated in the TriGrandPrix Series last year have been speaking about the TriGrandPrix Series to their friends and fans. We have also received great coverage from the UK and international media, including 220 Triathlon Magazine and the Competitor Group. See below for more details.

If you would like to register for any of the 2011 Experiences in the UK, Ireland, France, Spain or the Basque Country, please visit Please also feel free to share with your friends and club mates.

Looking forward to seeing you again on one of the big days!

P.S. It hasn’t been made public yet, but TriGrandPrix will be announcing a sixth Experience in 2011 over the coming weeks. You heard it first here!

If you have any question, please feel free to contact me or any of the TriGrandPrix team.
